2nd Africa Drylands Week in N’Djamena

August 20, 2014

The Second Africa Drylands Week will take place in N’Djamena, Chad. The focus is the role of sustainable land management in the context of Africa’s Year of Agriculture and Food Security. The event is co-hosted by the Government of Chad, the African Union institutions, UNCCD secretariat, Global Mechanism of the UNCCD, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, United Nations Environmet Programme, Economic Commision of West African States, Permanent Interstate Committee on the Control of Drought in the Sahel (CILSS) and World Agroforestry Organization.

The First Africa Drylands Week was held back-to-back with the global observance event on 17 June to mark World Day to Combat Desertification. Over 100 scientists, and representatives of government, international and civil society organizations from around the world converged in Dakar, Senegal, from 10-17 June 2011, to develop an integrated approach to address the Region’s abiding challenges of desertification and biodiversity loss, and the new climate change threat.
