In Ethiopia, over the last hundreds of years land degradation triggered by soil erosion has been a major cause of chronic food insecurity. The original forest coverage of the country which was about 40 percent has dwindled to 4 percent before twenty years. In 2006, World Vision Ethiopia started a pioneering project, in collaboration with the government of Ethiopia and World Vision Australia. The goal of the Project was to rehabilitate 2,778 hectare of degraded land and its adjacent villages through Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration and improve the livelihoods of the communities by enhancing ecosystem services and carbon revenue…
