Biography: Dr. James (Jim) Roshetko is an agroforestry and natural resource management specialist with 33 years of professional experience, including 26 years of in Southeast and South Asia, and 17 years residing in Indonesia.
Jim’s research focus is on smallholder tree farming systems for livelihood enhancement, carbon storage and sustainable Environmental management.
Presentation Summary
The presentation highlights the contribution of smallholder agroforestry systems to rural livelihoods enhancement and sustainable environmental management. The link between FMNR and agroforestry is stressed, as many smallholder agroforestry systems originate from a combination of planting and ‘managed natural regeneration’.
The importance of agroforestry and FMNR will grow, as global forest resources continue to decrease and increases in human population and corresponding wealth further exacerbate the demand for food, forest products, and forest services (and the conversion of forests to other land.
